Forest green come into this match off of a 1-0 away win against Altrincham in the first round of matches on the weekend just gone. Striker Jon Parkin scored the winner in the 73rd minute. They played 3 pre season friendlies and got a good draw against Cardiff and a win against Bishops Cleeve. They did lose against Aston villa as well but got some good minutes in against some quality players. Last season they just missed out on promotion after reaching the play offs coming in 5th place. They were knocked out to eventual play off winners Bristol Rovers though.
Welling also started the season off with 3 points in a 1-0 home win against newly promoted Guiseley. Sahr Kabba got the winner in the 40th minute. Welling played 3 pre season friendlies and lost all of them to Ebbsfleet, Charlton and Maidstone. Welling finished last season just 1 place above the relegation zone in 20th position. It was a tough season for them but they just managed to stay in the conference.
Welling's win came against a newly promoted team that came up through the play offs in the division below. They finished 5th in the league but somehow managed to win the play offs to gain promotion. They are a team that in my opinion will probably go straight back down. I think Welling are 1 of the weakest teams in the league as shown by thier finishing position last season. Forest Green are a team that are improving season after season and just missed out on promotion last year. They will feel this year will be their season and I think it could be. The chairman that took over the club in 2010 has invested a lot of money into the club and they seem to be a club on the up. I think they will get a good win here and it should be by more than 1 goal. They are the better team that have better players and are at home. Also this fixture last season finished 4-1 to "the green" and I wouldn't be surprised to see something similar. The odds on this are dropping so get on it quick if you are going to.
