Bordeaux -Liverpool

The Reds begin their Europa League campaign with a tricky trip to Bordeaux and our tipster thinks the home side are decent value to claim a famous victory on Thursday night
There was misery on Merseyside at the weekend as Liverpool slumped to a dismal 3-1 defeat against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

However, Brendan Rodgers' side have a golden opportunity to lift the gloom when they travel to Bordeaux to face Willy Sagnol's side in Europa League Group B on Thursday.

That said, they must do so without some of their big names thanks to a squad that has not included Christian Benteke, James Milner and first choice centre-backs Martin Skrtel and Dejan Lovren.

The much-changed Reds are chalked up at 7/5 (2.40) with bet365 to kick off their European campaign with a victory in France, while Bordeaux are available at 19/10 (2.90) with the same firm to get the better of their English Premier League opponents. The draw is chalked up as a 23/10 (3.30) chance with bet365 ahead of Thursday's tussle.

Sagnol's side will certainly come into this match in confident mood, having ended Paris Saint-Germain's 13-match winning run in Ligue 1 by claiming an impressive 2-2 draw in Paris on Friday night.

Furthermore, Bordeaux have kept a clean sheet in three of their four competitive home matches thus far this term and can be backed at 5/2 (3.50) with bet365 to shut out the Reds, while the same firm go 4/1 (5.0) that the home side win to nil.

It is worth noting that Liverpool have failed to win any of their last five matches away from home in European competition and, indeed, failed to find the net in four of those fixtures, while the Reds have managed just three goals in five competitive matches thus far this term.

With that in mind, the 7/10 (1.70) quote from bet365 for fewer than three goals to be scored when these two sides go head-to-head in France carries appeal, while the same firm go 10/11 (1.91) that either side fails to find the net.

Bordeaux can be backed at a tempting even money (2.0) with bet365 in the "Draw No Bet" market, while the 5/1 (6.0) quote from the same firm for Sagnol's side to win a match featuring fewer than three goals looks to represent decent value.

While the "Draw No Bet" option offers some cover for those concerned with the possibility of a stalemate, the hosts can be backed to pile the pressure on Rodgers' Reds by claiming a crucial win here and, therefore, are encouraged to snap up bet365's generous 19/10 (2.90) quote for a home win against a side missing several key players.
